Meet Ellysia, Peta and Lonnie, your friendly and highly trained team!

Ellysia is the Salon Owner and specialises in colour and restyling.

When did you start hairdressing?
I have been hairdressing for half my life, starting in 1991. My mother was a hairdresser and owned a salon in Sydney so I suppose it's in my blood. I worked in Sydney, Canberra and Cootamundra in some great salons and moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2002.

Why did you start up Mooloolaba Hair?
I bought Mooloolaba Hair in December 2004. I knew the salon well because I had worked here with a previous owner. The salon came with no clients, just the fixtures, fittings, name and phone number. It was a great challenge and continues to be very rewarding. Back in 2002, I met my husband Michael in this salon so it is a very special place!!

Favorite Styles
I love colouring hair. I love doing a restyle on someone. I will think about a client's hair cut the night before their appointment. I take hairdressing very seriously. I believe we create a piece of art which people must wear for 4-8 weeks.  I like sharing my knowledge of hair with my clients so they can understand how their hair sits and reacts to different situations.

Hair Tip
Keeping your hair in good condition is critical to holding your style between salon appointments. Use good quality shampoo and conditioner, monthly treatments and leave-in conditioning sprays to keep your hair looking fantastic.

Why do you like Mooloolaba Hair?
I love the salon and the team we have created. Everyone is hardworking and honest. I love my clients and their continued business. I feel the salon has a great atmosphere and we give a very personal service.

Hobbies and Interests
I love looking after my little girl Eboney. It is great to watch her grow up. She is such a happy and cute little girl. I like going down to the beach and lying in the sun during summer. I also go to the gym to do strength and cardio – not classes. I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I like reading books, especially detective murder mystery novels. I'm also a fan of TV shows like House, CSI, NCIS, So You Think You Can Dance and Burn Notice.

Peta is the Salon Manager and Senior Hairdresser

When did you start hairdressing and when did you start at Mooloolaba Hair?
I started hairdressing in 1998 and started working at Mooloolaba Hair in 2006.

What you like about hairdressing?
I love every aspect of hairdressing, the colouring, the cutting, the wonderful people I get to meet, the people I work with....everything!!

Favorite Styles
I love all the choppy asymmetrical styles that are around at the moment but I also love the classics. I think the most important thing is to have a style that makes you feel confident and sexy, while also suiting your personality, style and face shape.

Hair Tip
My best tip is regular trims to keep your style fresh. And don’t be afraid to use products! They don’t damage your hair, they just support your style.

Most asked hair question
My most asked question (apart from "how are you?") is probably what styles suit clients and what don’t.

Why you like working at Mooloolaba Hair
I love working with Ellysia and Sarah. I love working here because the salon has a wonderful atmosphere, it looks a million bucks and everyone that walks out of here looks and feels that way too. I also like giving my clients one-on-one service. It’s a wonderful place to work.

Hobbies and Interests
My hobbies are reading, snorkeling, boating, surfing in the summer, anything to do with the beach really. I don’t mind fishing too. I love going bushwalking with my mum and I love clothes but hate shopping. I absolutely love animals, all of them. I like tattoos but don’t have one. I have always wanted to pierce my nose but am too much of a wimp to do it. I love my huge family and I would move Heaven and Earth for them in a second, and surprise surprise, I’m a workaholic.

Lonnie: Senior Hairdresser

When did you start hairdressing and when did you start at Mooloolaba Hair?
I started hairdressing in 1999 and joined the team at Mooloolaba Hair in August 2009.

What you like about hairdressing?
I love blowdrying and upstyles. I like people to walk away feeling beautiful and confident. I love precission cuts and creating texture with colour.

Favorite Styles
I love creating a loose feminine bohemian hairstyle that looks bouncy and sexy.

Hair Tip
To control strong cow licks: direct air flow when blowdrying directly down, whilst hair is still quite wet. There is no need for a brush until this section is 95% dry. If it is still not cooperating, try blowdrying it in the opposite direction. This tip is great for fringes.

Most asked hair question
To determine what is going to individually suit each person I always ask "what do you love about your hair and what don't you like?". This way I can deliver something catered to every taste.

Why you like working at Mooloolaba Hair
Working at Mooloolaba Hair is fantastic. I enjoy meeting new people and pampering our clientele, so their experience is relaxed and enjoyable. Ellysia and Peta are lovely to work with and we have a great work environment.

Hobbies and Interests
I spend my spare time going to the gym, painting and sculpting. Also spending time with friends and family as well as travelling and going to festivals!
